Civic-minded Students Use Talents to Help Others
Students at The Art Institute of Seattle have a long history of working with non-profit organizations, resulting not only in positive civic relationships but deepened understanding of client communications and often times great portfolio pieces.

Here's a sampling of projects Seattle students have been involved in through their classes, Student Studio, and through other volunteer efforts.

Teen Hope Youth Shelter
Interior Design students developed new floor plans for the Shoreline facility. The students visited the shelter, took measurements, interviewed staff and researched the needs of the facility. Their designs create more efficient use of space and provide a warmer environment for homeless teens.

KIRO TV
When CBS affiliate KIRO TV needed some animation to go with an investigative piece they called The Art Institute of Seattle. Working with Kris Halsney, a KIRO reporter, two students from the Web Design & Interactive Media program, created a 3-D animation segment illustrating a car accident. “They did an incredible amount of work for seven seconds of fame,” says Halsney. “They did a terrific job, it was very professional.”

Northwest Environment Watch
A trio of students in the Web Design & Interactive Media program created flash animation for the environmental agency's website, illustrating a complicated but compelling story – the movement of nitrogen oxides from the Puget Sound area to Mount Rainier National Park .

City of Hope
Nearly 40 students participated in a breast cancer awareness project called “Bras for the Cause.” Designed to raise awareness of breast cancer and to promote the City of Hope 's annual October walk which raises funds for breast cancer research, the event was a powerful statement – each student decorated a bra for a specific person who had battled breast cancer.

Historic Seattle
Dedicated to architectural preservation, photography students used 4x5 film to shoot nearly 10 different locations. Students then scanned the photos and provided them to the client on a CD for use in brochures and for an anniversary celebration.

Northwest Jr. Pipe Band
Student Studio designed a logo for this bagpipe band in Summer 2004. The client returned in the fall for a promotional brochure which also incorporates Student Studio – Photography.
